“The thing always happens that you really believe in; and the belief in a thing makes it happen.”
Frank Lloyd Wright US architect (1869-1959)Herons' House is really happening! The first floor is framed; I have walked the floor plan and I have experienced the breathtaking beauty of the view from the second floor. Although I have been actively involved in the design phase of our dream house, I have struggled with being able to really see and feel what our house would be like once it came off the paper.
Perhaps that is why I have not written a column until now. I knew that Herons' House was special and I knew that I would love it, and I knew that it was everything that we wanted in a custom home…But it wasn’t until I saw the first floor framed and could really walk the floor plan, that Herons' House became a reality for me.
Walking through that front door frame for the first time on Wednesday night was the most amazing moment! It was so very difficult to take it all in. I wanted to see it all, yet I wanted to go slowly and fully experience every inch of the first floor. I wanted to look through each window, walk through each doorway, down each hallway and into every room. I wanted to savor the moment-live in the present, but I could not help imagining the many memories that will be created in this very special place. I started to say: “I can’t wait for…” when I was reminded of Peder’s words as we began this process over a year ago-“Enjoy the journey, enjoy every step of the process!” So I paused, and just took it all in. I have to admit that it was more beautiful that I ever imagined it would be!
