Our First Home Tour

We gave our first “tour” of the house today! I think that it was this tour that actually inspired me to write my first journal entries.  I had been thinking about writing after walking the floor plan on Wednesday, but it wasn’t until I shared the experience with friends that I was ready to put my thoughts and feelings on paper and post to the web site.

Our good friends, Ron, Connie, Tom, Marilyn, Pete and Diane stopped by this morning.  We toasted the event with our favorite Wilson Creek Almond Champagne.   It was so fun to walk the first floor and up the ladder to the second floor.  We walked all around the outside of the house and pointed out the outdoor kitchen, the fire pit, the wine cellar, Sheawanna Creek and where the vineyard will ultimately be planted.  Each of them was so happy for us and so interested in all aspects of the project.  We all agreed that this will be a great “party” house.  Peder and I love to entertain and Herons' House was designed with that in mind.

Our first official party will be next month-In keeping with the Danish custom; we will have the rejsegilde, a celebration at the raising of the highest rafter on a new building.  This party will honor the builders and those that have worked on the house up to this point.  Our next party will be our house warming party-hopefully in early spring.

These celebrations will bring together our family and friends and allow each of them to experience the beauty and magic of Herons' House.  They will be able to share in our happiness and be a part of our special journey.  Nothing is more important to Peder and I than our family and our friends and we wanted our home to be a place where people could gather and good times could be shared.

A custom home is a labor of love-and no one has labored over this home more than Peder.  He has accepted the challenge of being the owner/builder without reservation.  He has worked closely with Bart, our architect; Ron, our concrete man; Chris, our framer; and Bent, his brother and an accomplished builder in San Diego, every step of the way.  Peder has incredible vision and Herons' House was born out of that vision.  I continue to be in awe of his passion and his dedication to this project.  He thinks of everything and is always five steps ahead of the game.  I don’t know how he does it, but I sure am glad that he does.  He never seems to be frazzled or frustrated and he does all of this while running Downtown Encinitas!  I feel blessed to have Peder in my life and to be sharing in this dream.  I have learned so much from him during this process and I have come to appreciate his creative side, his artistic nature and his flexible thinking even more than I did before we began this journey.  I look forward to a lifetime of happiness in our new home and a lifetime of making cherished memories…
