Two weeks, two stories.
Happy Thanksgiving!
The framing for Herons' House has gone extremely fast. The entire second floor is framed, the beams are in for the roof and most of the trusses have been "rolled out." The exciting part of the second story is the unexpected quality of the view as well as the site lines and view sheds from the second story and the large openings in the master bedroom, the kitchen, and the music room.
The 600 sq. ft. "sleeping porch" off the music room is fantastic. It was very challenging for the brain trust to figure out the complexities of such a large deck with different side and front lengths meeting in a corner. The uniqueness of this area is that the 300 sq. ft. inside and 600 sq. ft. outside come together to form one large room when the Nana wall system is open.
The Nana walls for the kitchen and music room were delivered on Wednesday and they are beautiful! They are made in Germany and out of wood with aluminum cladding on the outside. We expect to hang those around the middle of December. This link is for a similar cornerless application. NanaWall Systems, Inc. Gallery - Photo Library:
Last week we also took the roof off of the Egret and installed a new hip roof with 6 by 6 tails. This is the same roof system that we will use on Herons' House. Next week we will be sheeting the roof on the Egret. It was pretty amazing to see the old roof one day and the new roof the next day.
The entry foyer for the Egret was also framed. On the bottom pic you can see where the door and three large windows are located. Believe it or not, the single story foyer has four strong walls in it so we could utilize maximum space for the windows and door.
