We have begun the excavation of the wine cellar and other excavation for a structural steel "Moment frame" and grade beam. The excavation is approx 500 sq. ft. and 6 ft deep including footings from the lowest level. From the top level the excavation is 11 ft. This will give us enough room for the 3ft wide footings, sand and concrete pad on the floor and a 7.5 ft. clearance to the joist on the top which will be the ceiling/deck of the main house.
The finished size of the two room wine cellar after back filling the stem walls will be 450 sq. ft. The cellar will be poured first and then a stem wall built on top of the footings.
The Moment Frame will be a two story steel skeleton that will provide rigidity and strength for the corner-less NanaWall system.
