Thursday evening the 22nd, Julie and I walked down the temporary stairs into our wine cellar. Using a masons grout table as a table and 12" CMU blocks as chairs we celebrated the construction of the cellar by uncorking our first bottle of wine in the cellar.

It was early evening and it was perfect. The sun was setting, the sky colorful, the air brisk but not to cold and Julie and and I sharing a nice bottle of Stags Leap. It did not matter that the floor was dust, and no roof overhead, the wine and the evening will be remembered forever.

The bottle was a wedding present from our friends Ian and Maggie, and it was the perfect choice to have as our first bottle uncorked in the cellar.

The cellar is a two room wine cellar. the smaller room, 9'by15', will be our cellared wine area with temperature and humidity control. there will be no windows in that room and it will be heavily insulated.

The larger room 13' by 20' will be our tasting room. Some whites will be kept there, but mostly it will be a place to gather with friends with a tasting table and comfortable furniture.

By the end of this week we will be finished with the Cellar and have it grouted and backfilled. After that we will concentrate on the foundation on the top of the lot where Heron's House will sit,  as well as the vineyard landscape walls to the west of the house.
