| Happy New Year!
Our hope for a healthy and happy 2006 to you and your family! As we begin 06, 14 months of planning, designing, and building have taken place. There is more behind us than in front of us as relates to the construction of Herons' House. For fun, take a look at this time last year as we began clearing our property. We are so happy with our choice of Pella wood windows and doors. This was a choice that we agonized over for months. First was the decision to use a wood window, and then a decision of which manufacturer to use. Our NANA wall systems were able to match the Pella cladding and we were very impressed with the Pella stainless steel hardware as well as the oil rubbed bronze hardware. As we priced and compared features of several wood manufacturers, it was clear that Pella was the best choice. Taking delivery and installing 70 units is a big task and not without a few hiccups. The measure of a quality company is how they handle those hiccups after the sale has been made and the checks cashed. Pella was outstanding in their customer service and prompt handling fixing the error. Thank you Pella and Pattie! We have installed 75% of our Pella windows. We have 70 wood windows and doors in the Egret and Herons' House and each of them requires staining and finishing. Building a house in the Prairie style of architecture meant that vinyl, fiberglass or aluminum windows were not an option. Although an expensive element of the house, the clad wood windows are awesome! |

The Egret had all of original windows and doors replaced with Pella wood windows and doors. We modified many of the openings and added new window locations such as the corners in this pic.
These are the awning windows from the tasting room of the wine cellar.
Four wood sliders! The bottom two is where the old garage used to be. We chose sliders for this location because of the relatively narrow decks.
Two sets of 8ft French doors onto the outside deck.
Three 5 ft sets of casement windows in the dining room |
